Antalya Tourism up 13% This Year

10 August 2011

Tourism to Antalya is almost 15% higher this year according to new data. According to the Antalya Culture and Tourism Directorate Antalya welcomed 13% more tourists between Jan 1 and August 7 this year than it did during the same period last year.

According to the data some 6.4 million tourists visited Antalya in the first seven months of this year, compared to 5.7 million last year, and up from 5.4 million in 2008, and 5.01 million in 2009. Antalya hosted 394,521 tourists in the first week of August 2011.

This data is confirmed by airport data recently released by Anna.Aero. The data shows strong growth in passenger numbers to Antalya airport throughout this year, including 19% year on year growth in February, 20% growth in March, and 44% growth in April. Growth for the year so far has averaged 19% year on year. It is also worth noting that even though April was by far the strongest growth, its 1.58 million passengers is overshadowed by the 2.78 million in May and 3.34 million in June.

This report comes just a few days after the Turkish culture and tourism ministry reported that the 13 million tourists welcomed in the first six months of 2011 represents a 12% growth on last year.
