Barcelona World Race Reaches Cape Verde Islands
18 January 2011
The Barcelona World Race is the only two-crew sailing regatta in the world, a non-stop sailing race around the world. Participants are only allowed some outside assistance, which is subject to restrictions, so this event is truly a challenge of skill and stamina.
The first Barcelona World Race took place in 2007/2008 and the next one will be held in 2014. The current race began in December 2010 in Barcelona, and the winning is the first sailing pair who can navigate their way successfully back to Barcelona via the Cape Of Good Hope, Cape Leeuwin and Cape Horn, a distance of approximately 25,000 nautical miles. This intense challenge is only taken on by the most skilled and experienced professional sailors in the world.
The leading pair has recently passed by the Cape Verde Islands off the coast of West Africa.
