Hilton to Open Chain of Low-Budget Hotels in Turkey
13 July 2011
Internationally recognised luxury hotel chain Hilton has announced plans to launch a new low-cost hotel brand in Turkey.
The firm said that it has signed contracts to open and operate for "Hampton by Hilton" properties in Turkey within the next year. One of the properties will be located in Tekirdag's Corlu neighbourhood, another in the Kayasehir district of Istanbul, one in Rize on the Black Sea, and the other in Gaziantep.
Michael Collini, Hilton's VP for Development in Eastern Europe, Turkey and Russia, made the announcement at a press conference, saying that the decision was encouraged by Turkey's current placing as a powerful and growing economy.
The company has also revealed plans for a further six budget hotel properties in the region, as well as further expansions in the low-budget and midrange brands in the region, as part of a "new strategy".
There are also plans to bring its top luxury Waldorf Astoria brand to Turkey, but Collini said that this is not part of the current short-term strategy.
The first Hampton by Hilton property in Istanbul will open in August of 2012, according to construction officials working on the project.
